What do SAR dogs do?
Search and Rescue dogs are valuable resources in efforts to find missing people. They can work day or night, in most kinds of weather and are especially effective where human sight of access may be limited (such as flood or tornado debris).

How SAR dogs work
SARDOG's air scenting dogs find people by smelling their airborne scent. Air scenting can be successful long after the person has been reported missing since the person will still be emitting scent. This is true even for a drowning victim or a burial.

Qualifications

• SARDOG team members are trained in the following:
• Searching with a trained dog in woods, water, urban and disaster scenes.
• National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) "Managing the Lost Person Incident," and the Incident Command System.
• Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) "Rescue Specialists"
• Man tracking
• Use of VHF programmable field radios. All teams are radio equipped.
• Map, compass, and survival skills.

Search and Rescue Dogs of Georgia provides all services free of charge to the requesting agency.
